    KulenDayz is the best conference

kulendayz2009In the past year and a half, from the moment I became Microsoft Student Partner, I attended quite few conferences, like Windays, Teched, Security Days… but after attending KulenDayz 2009 for the second time, I can see, for me, this is the best conference. From my report that I wrote a year ago, you can see that I was very satisfied with this conference, and I must say, I’m very very satisfied with this year’s conference.

kulendayz2009_me_before_presentationMy journey to Kulen Dayz 2009 started in Split, where I study, by car with Vladan Strigo, Denis Muntic and Denis Brulic. We had plans to travel for maybe 6 hours, but when you listen to Garmin GPS device (and we had two other GPS devices on mobile phones) saying stay on the left side, and actually you have to stay on the right side of the road, you can easily turn left insted of turning right. So we ended up in the center of Zagreb, insted of going east to Osijek. So, we came to Beli Manastir very late, we were very tired and frustated so I went to bed very soon after arriving.

Saturday was day for real conference, I had my Hyper-V Server 2008 presentation at 15:00 hrs, just after the lunch, and I spent almost whole morning checking my demo to make sure that everything works. I had about 10 attendees at my session, and I knew maybe 50% of them :-) . There was Rane Johnson-Stempson and Henk van Roest from Microsoft, Marin Frankovic and Robert Petrunic from Algebra, Josip Medved from Siemens and few others. kulendayz2009_itpro_crew I am very happy that everything went well, we had great discussion at the end of the session and I hope attendees were satisfied with the lecture. After that, I stayed in a same room to hear Josip’s presentation of Windows 7 and boot from .vhd, and I’m so excited to see this technology live.

In the evening we had dinner in autentic Slavonian village, with live band singing. The funniest thing was we started to play Guitar Hero on XBOX360, when I said to them: guys, step back, it’s our turn now! :-) They were shocked, because they have never seen Guitar Hero. We had great time having Guitar Hero tournament (of course, the winner was Ivan Saskor, who has spent whole day practicing in the Gaming zone) and singing karaoke.

kulendayz2009_guitar_hero On Sunday we had to go back to Split early in the morning, while others went to have fun canoeing and having lunch. I’m sure they had a lot of fun.

Why I think this is the best conference? Because the main moto is “slow down“, and the main goal of the conference is to gather all IT professionals from Croatia and some from Europe to have fun, to meet each other and to learn something. It is not so “strict”, everything goes very slowly… you just need to relax.

I would like to congratulate to Bernardin Katic, Dean Vitner and others for organizing such a great event, and I hope I’ll attend KulenDayz 2010.
