Microsoft Open Days at FESB
Yesterday we had Microsoft Open Days at my college. The goal of this “conference” was to introduce Microsoft and Microsoft’s products to the students. First we introduced Imagine cup, competition for students, organized by Microsoft and supported by UNESCO. After that, team The wall of balance, last year’s winners of the competition in Croatia, showed us their winning project.
Then, Luka Abrus and me introduced Microsoft academic programs and Microsoft student partner program to the students. It was followed by Luka’s presentation of the Silverlight and Poply, then I introduced Microsoft virtualization products (Hyper-V, App-V, Terminal Services…). Again, Luka and presentation of the Microsoft’s Live platform + Internet Explorer 8 beta. At the end we had two lectures from the only two MVPs in Split, Ivan Saskor (ADO.NET Entity Framework) and Vladan Strigo (ASP.NET MVC). After all lectures, we moved to student’s club to play Guitar Hero 3 and Pro Evolution Soccer on the XBOX 360.
I was very surprised when I saw about 150 students at the beginning of the event. Imagine cup was huge bait for all of them
. As the time was passing by, numbers of participants was dropping, but that’s what I expected. We had many questions after lectures (Linux fans mostly
).
I have to say thanks to Ivan Macek and Dragan Begonja,
Microsoft Student Partners, who helped me a lot with organization of this event. Also, I have to say thanks to Ana Desic, Office manager at Microsoft Innovation Center in Varazdin, who was external organizer and equipment support to this event. Thanks to Ratko Mutavdzic, National Technology Officer at Microsoft Croatia, for helping me wth agenda, Luka Abrus, for having 4 lecures!!!, and to Ivan Saskor and Vladan Strigo for their lectures.
