    Windows Server 2008 Core option

One new and great option in Windows Server 2008 is Server Core. Server Core is “windows without windows“. When you start operating system you get only this:

As you can see, no Start button, no Internet Explorer, no Windows Media Player, no… Only Command prompt. You may ask: Why should I use Core installation option instead normal Windows, with Server Manager? There is one good thing about Server Core: by default, nothing is installed. In next post I’m going to write more about other good things about Server Core, like increased security, stability … I sad that Server Core is “windows without windows”, but that’s not 100% true. How can you get your copy of Core option? It is already on your Windows Server 2008 installation DVD. In the process of installing WS2k8 on your machine, you can select normal or Core installation of Windows Server 2008. So, for now, be patient :-)
    • They are not :)
    • It WILL be supported, but I don't know when. Yes, there are few hacks, but I don't think those hacks are supported by Microsoft.
    • Will PowerShell be available on Core anytime soon? I've seen some hacks on how to get it to work on Win Server 2008 but I'm wondering do you know will it be supported in future?
