Windows Server 2008 roles

As I promised in last post, in this post I’m going to give you the list of all Windows Server 2008 roles. As you can see in table, when you buy Windows Server 2008 Enterprise or Datacenter edition, you get all roles, when you buy Standard edition you have some limitations with few roles and you don’t have Active Directory Federation Services at all. And one thing about Hyper-V, it is still in beta, and you don’t have to buy that role. If you need Hyper-V for virtualization, it costs only 28$

Although an itil certification is equivalent to ccnp, but while in network plus, people don’t rest until they have an mcsa certification as well as an mcdba certification to their credit.

What about Core edition?

In Server Core installation option, you can use these roles: DHCP, DNS, File, Print, ADDS, ADLDS, IIS7 (ASP.NET is not available with Server Core installation option in any edition), Hyper-V. Of course, in one of next posts I am going to write about Core option.

I don’t see media service in the role, where is it?

It is there, somehow I forgot to put it in the list. You can find complete list on this link: http://www.brajkovic.info/windows-server-2008/windows-server-2008-core-option/ .
